We have an expression:

[tex]-8a+x[/tex]

We have to evaluate it when a = 3 and x = -5. To do that we replace a and x by its values and calculate:

[tex]\begin{gathered} -8(3)+(-5) \\ -24-5 \\ -29 \end{gathered}[/tex]
