How was the Roman Empire different from the Byzantine empire?

The Roman empire originated in Rome, it spoke Latin and spanned every coastline in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Byzantine empire is different from the Roman empire because it spans less land since it's its Eastern Counterpart. They also spoke Greek instead of Latin.
