Why was the conflict between the clergy and the third estate the most divisive in the course of the revolution?

@Metchelle you have it backwards the third estate was poor and full of peasants, while the clergy (or the first estate) forced the third estate to pay dues. Basically the clergy had money and the peasants wanted it which led to the conflict.
