Macbeth has decided to kill the king and take the crown for himself. He sat and waited for the bell to ring as a go signal, while pondering on his decision one last time. He then began to hallucinate about a bloody dagger and as his courage was stifled, Lady Macbeth rang the bell, a signal to let him know that Duncan's chamberlains were asleep and then he went to commit the heinous crime.
