Oliver Goldsmith was born on November 10, 1730 in Kilkenny West, Ireland. After unsuccessfully studying medicine and traveling through Europe, Goldsmith arrived without money in London. He took odd jobs, which included writing. He became famous for his readable style and believable characters. Works include Deserted Village and The Vicar of Wakefield. He died on April 4, 1774.
